Here Comes the Flood

Who'll Stop The Rain?

standing on the shoulders
of giants,
those who came before
providing perspective
on those who have come since

wince to squint
a cloud cover view of

the rain not the parade,
an umbrella never big enough,
the fairytale at the end of the rainbow

forecast grim,
lightning flashes and so begins
the count of one thousands
until thunder comes,
rolling in and on and on
through the flood of regrets,
puddling the bottom of a hole in a heart
where children once played,
but now sing the sad refrain
of rain, rain go away
