A short film
with only sound.
Sorrow stands smoking in a doorway
above a puddling sidewalk.
Splash cabs and crying sirens, a sad opera
and the ghost of Maria Callas like fog through a window,
"Nessun confronto a,"
the insult of a man pretending to know what a woman really feels.
Another cigarette lit with the kiss of red lips,
then she steps into the rain.
